I attended a career coaching seminar recently. One of the topics briefly covered was on job search buddies. I agreed that it truly helps to have a partner who is going through the same experience. You can provide support for one another during the journey. But, of course, choose wisely.
Pick someone who is optimistic by nature, is action-oriented and has a good sense of humor. You will need these skills from this person at some point in your job search. One of the most important roles this person plays is up front in the job search process when you are brainstorming about your aspirations, wants and needs...no matter how crazy. This is your first entry in jobgenda. It is only one page. But, the clarity that is required when you actually have to write it down in black and white is invaluable.
You need someone who can push you, think outside the box, raise your game, and dare to dream with you. Ideally, someone who knows you well who can piece together your history, current story and daydreams into a cohesive, inspirational view of your future. That is the most important thing you can do for one another. Then, the steps can fall into place with a plan, but first you want the right vision.
